Event Description

In this three-week class, we’ll explore how to dance solo jazz to fast music. You’ll get tips and tricks on how to keep up with the quick tempo while still keeping a smile on your face. We’ll focus on the Mama Stew routine and use its steps to dive deeper into the rich details of solo jazz dancing.
The Mama Stew is a classic solo choreography that was commonly practiced by Whitey's Lindy Hoppers as a warm-up before tackling more complex routines. It’s a well-known piece that’s danced at international festivals and often shows up at our local social dances too. Join the class and be ready to jump into the social fun afterwards!
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE for this thematic class:
No prior knowledge of the Mama Stew or solo jazz is needed. However, some familiarity with basic solo jazz steps (like those in the Shim Sham) is helpful. For those who already know the Mama Stew steps, this class offers a great chance to explore how to add your own individual style.
